Google Analytics Tracking code not working as expected (workaround fix)

Google analytics only started tracking the page once I put the code into:
[look and feel] -> [html] -> [Styles HTML]

It did not work in:
[look and feel] -> [html] -> [Header HTML]
and also not in :
[settings]->[site]->[google universal analytics tracking ID]

Important to note that my tracking code is not in the old classic universal analytics format of:
UI-XXXXXXXXXXX
but the new format google is now using:
G-XXXXXXXXXXX

So maybe the [google universal analytics tracking ID] feature is incompatible with the new format?

The workaround works fine, but I thought I should report it.
